One of my favorite memories of high school is my friend Dave's sense of humor. In junior year we were given an open assignment in history to write a long report on a topic of our choosing. Dave, a very smart guy, asked me what I was going to write about. My head was full of "The Greening of America," and I responded with something suitably derivative for a myopic high school junior who had his head immersed in "The Greening of America." I went on for many sentences. With a totally deadpan face, Dave said he was going to do his paper on boats.
These boats belong to Kingsborough Community College, which has a maritime studies program. Kingsborough is on the eastern end of Coney Island, and suitably close to the water. Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn.
