A statue of a Union soldier in America's Civil War is on the top of a pillar; an Aerican flag flutters on the left.

It's Memorial Day, a day to venerate those who gave their lives in US wars. This statue of a civil war soldier is in Beacon (NY), highlighting a section of graves of Civil War veterans, not just those who died in the war. One of the tombstones marks an African American, Jacob Johnson. I've been curious about the community reception regarding integration in the cemetery; was there any resistance to mixing the races? Fairview Cemetery (Beacon). New York.
