Those of you who have been regular readers know how much I've enjoyed my times in Vermont. Before our daughter summer camped there I had no idea how much it could transform my mood and sense of being; it's truly like you go through a warp. Sure, you still have to feed yourself, and you have to warm yourself in the winter, but every time I visited there it was like taking the leg weights off.
But as a visitor, I've looked at Vermont differently. It's a small state, and I never really saw how it sustained itself beyond tourism and cheese. And in 2006 the New York Times had an article about youth flight, in response to greener grass elsewhere. But along comes a report that opportunities in Vermont are among the best in the nation.
Who knew? Congrats, Vermont.
