Well, seeing as tomorrow is what it is... Even though you've prolly already seen this, please review for the context.
Now of course I'm not raising this to point out that the Edmund Burke "quote" has never been found in his works or letters (it's pretty much the Holy Grail of quotation hunters), but about the whole thousand years of darkness thing. The Norrises may be alone in their use of a thousand years (perhaps they aren't thinking in base ten, but really base two? That would work out to eight in base 10, right?), but they're not alone in fearing what will happen should Obama get reelected.
But in an exchange of emails with someone I'm very close to, Obama's reelection isn't the only thing to be feared. This person expressed a fear I had not heard before: that if Romney is elected, all the Obama supporters who have been enjoying government's teat lo, these many years, will rise up, and there will be uncontrolled rioting and looting. Civilization is threatened. And so they are stocking up on canned goods, bullets, prescriptions, and so on. They have their generator, solar panels, and so on. (This person did not say anything about jack booted thugs -- how could they? A Romney government would have the jack boots -- but I just see them imagining a flame-out like Waco.)
I have half a mind to email their priest; I certainly can't talk this person off the wall -- I am not as Left as they are Right, but their view of how quickly a centrist becomes a leftist is probbaly like the Saul Steinberg New Yorker cover: as soon as you claim there were no WMDs in Iraq, it's all over, you're imagined singing The Internationale and setting up Potemkin villages.
Perhaps they're comforted by Obama's bounce in the polls.
