When anyone wants to downplay the significance of something, be suspicious.

Basically, you should carefully sift the evidence for yourself. Not completely on your own, but with a degree of independence. Powerline's Steven Hayward has taken on the mantle of the house climate change skeptic; since Hinderaker's law firm does business for Koch Industries, it's probably better that there be someone else chipping away at solid science. But this week a long-standing, Koch-funded climate change skeptic converted, and converted so hard in his careering car that all the loose pens, iPods, cell phones, and coffee cups went berserk in a moment of zero gravity. He wrote in the New York Times, that not only is the planet warming, but humans are the cause. Paraphrasing Walt Kelly (was it the alligator?): We have met the fire stoker, and he is us.

Now, no tightly-knit community likes a defector. They must be dealt with. So Hayward did what he could. His modus was to suggest that Muller (the convert) was a climate change believer all along. Clever!

But alas, you can change your girlfriends, but it's tough to change your recorded history. It doesn't help when the Internets show you celebrating Muller's take-down of the hockey stick.

Denial is denial is denial. If you're going to deny, you may as well deny everything.
